Project: Urban Jungle – Nighthawk and owl
Artist: Aroma
Location: IM VIADUKT

Project
For «Urban Jungle» the artist let an owl become active. The video projection «Forest clearing 2010» shows an owl in the twiglight, that capture an arch and fascinates the visitors at the «night owl area» at the passage to the Geroldstrasse with subtle gesture. The eagle owl however lives in a box in front of the rearmost arch of IM VIADUKT. He surprises with an unexpected ability, if you look into his box. The apparently realistic video collages by Ursula Palla reveal contradictory details if you look closely.
Artist
Ursula Palla has been represented in numerous exhibitions and video festivals at home and abroad over the past 20 years. In large-scale installations and objects, she tackles the themes of projection, reality and construction. Her video installations are digital collages in the pictorial tradition of still life and landscape. Her pictorial contents are artificial natures that appear formally as a romantic moment, paradise or ideal state. A closer look at the beautiful appearance disintegrates into the contradictory nature of the details.
Location
The PWG Foundation acquires and provides affordable residential and commercial premises in the city of Zurich. In the listed railway viaduct it leases 46 shops, studios and catering outlets, including the first market hall of the city of Zurich. In 1894, viaducts replaced railway embankments in the industrial district of Zurich. By then, business was already moving into the viaduct. Up to 200 stonemasons pursued their craft there. In the 1990s, innovative tenants settled in and brought the district to life. As part of the refurbishment the PWG Foundation took over the expansion of the viaduct arches in 2004. The aim was to fill the viaduct with district compatible and regionally rooted usages, so that IM VIADUKT became a meeting place for the neighbourhood and beyond.
