Project: Urban Jungle – Stadtpoesie
Artist: Big Zis, Pino Dietiker
Location: IM VIADUKT

Project
Not the tortoise Cassiopeia, but rather the long-necked lanterns become carriers of wisdom in the «Urban Jungle». Eight street lamps along the arches surprise pedestrians with poetic thought-provoking ideas on the theme of nature. They shed light on aspects that entice a thought-provoking experience. The quotes in the speech bubbles originate from the swiss rapper Big Zis and the young author Pino Dietiker.
Artist
Big Zis a swiss rapper from Winterthur. Most of her lyrics are in swiss german with an ironic undertone. Pino Dietiker, born in 1991, lives in Aarau and studied at the Swiss Literature Institute in Biel. He has published texts in the publications orte, Narr and Neue Rundschau. What he wrote during an authors’ residence in Forum Schlossplatz has just been published as a newspaper: «Collected Place Speeches» (Forum Schlossplatz Aarau 2015). In 2014 he was prize winner at the Thun literary festival Literaare and in the same year released the PINUT EP with his band PINUT.
Location
The PWG Foundation acquires and provides affordable residential and commercial premises in the city of Zurich. In the listed railway viaduct it leases 46 shops, studios and catering outlets, including the first market hall of the city of Zurich. In 1894, viaducts replaced railway embankments in the industrial district of Zurich. By then, business was already moving into the viaduct. Up to 200 stonemasons pursued their craft there. In the 1990s, innovative tenants settled in and brought the district to life. As part of the refurbishment the PWG Foundation took over the expansion of the viaduct arches in 2004. The aim was to fill the Viadukt with district compatible and regionally rooted usages, so that IM VIADUKT became a meeting place for the neighbourhood and beyond.
