Reverse graffiti is the graffiti scene’s answer to the efforts to eradicate its works with the same technique: with high-pressure cleaners deposits are removed, so that a wall painting is created ex negativo, a «reverse graffiti». For IM VIADUKT, the internationally renowned street artist Onur Dinc cleans the wall of the passage to Josefstrasse with a pressure washer. He does this so precisely that graffiti appears on the viaduct walls.
Artist
The photorealistic artist Onur Dinc is a fixture in the young Swiss art scene. His ambitious accuracy is visible in every picture, without being rigid or losing a certain relaxed attitude. He is fascinated by the impact and presence of large images and the challenge of integrating them into the urban cityscape. The reaction to and interaction with the respective location of the image forms an important part of his work.
Location
The PWG Foundation acquires and provides affordable residential and commercial premises in the city of Zurich. In the listed rail viaduct it leases 46 shops, studios and catering outlets, including the first market hall of the city of Zurich. In 1894, viaducts replaced railway embankments in the industrial district of Zurich. By then, business was already moving into the viaduct. Up to 200 stonemasons pursued their craft there. In the 1990s, innovative tenants settled in and brought the district to life. As part of the refurbishment, the PWG Foundation took over the expansion of the viaduct arches in 2004. The aim was to fill the viaduct with district compatible and regionally rooted usages, so that IM VIADUKT became a meeting place for the neighbourhood and beyond.
