Project: Roti Manndli
Artist: Peter Bissig
Location: Best Western Premier Hotel Glockenhof

Project
About 10 «Roti Manndli» made by the wood sculptor Peter Bissig conquer the balconies and projections of the Hotel Glockenhof. They climb, crawl, crouch, sit … yes, some even seem to be flying. An exhibition takes place in the courtyard with a garden oasis. The partly oversized painted wooden figures can also be found in other public areas of the Hotel Glockenhof and the seminar centre. Thus, original wooden sculpture and modern lifestyle meet in an unusual all over-encounter in Hotel Glockenhof.
Artist
Peter Bissig (34), the wood sculptor learned carpentry before turning to the art. His figures are between 20 cm and 2.50 m in size. «They are brainchildren – or stomach ideas, if you wish. The take shape under the chainsaw. They start to stride, they are bent by burden or jump for joy, just as in real life,» says the artist. In Zurich it is his first appearance with the aim of setting a new tone in public places, to enliven the city centre and to reinforce the character of the experience.
Location
The host Matthias Sutter is about to revive the everyday scenery and entice hurrying guests to take a look. The Best Western Premier Hotel Glockenhof, with its 91 rooms, is located in the heart of the city. On the exterior the hotel displays the old-urban Zurich, in the interior it pays tribute to Swiss design and functionality. Guests will also find two restaurants, the modern Glogge Egge and the contemporary Conrad, and one of Zurich’s most beautiful summer gardens. The neo-baroque façade has successfully defied time and been well preserved.
