Project: Kaleidoskope
Artist: KARLEIDOSKOPE
Location: Globus Zürich Bahnhofstrasse

Project

Two kaleidoscopes are installed on the outdoor terrace of the Globus Zurich customer restaurant on the 5th floor. During the regular opening hours the visitors experience new and unexpected perspectives of commonplace sights thanks to the unusual viewing angle of the kaleidoscopes. As the kaleidoscope images are as numerous, as diverse and as ephemeral as snowflakes. Even the smallest movement suffices for the beautifully radiating structures to vanish, to blend into a new, unique composition made of light shape and colour for a short time.

Artist

For the married couple Ulrich and Monika Karl from KARLEIDOSKOPE, kaleidoscopes are more than «just» a child’s toy, they are a place of leisure, a place to dream and philosophise. For 25 years, they have been manufacturing kaleidoscopes from various materials and are represented with their works in various Kaleidoscope galleries in America and Japan.

Location

Behind Globus stands more than 100 years of history. With great passion they commit themselves to ensuring that customers experience shopping as a special adventure. The Globus Zurich Bahnhofstrasse is located prominently on the Pestalozzi park. The Pestalozziwiese was the site of execution in the city of Zurich until about 1860. On 14th September 1967, Globus moved in to the former Pestalozzi school building and opened its flagship store.
