Project

A one-armed bandit of a special kind. A large lever moves the product world and draws attention to the façade. The playing fields of the oversized one-armed bandit rotate in the large windows of the Migros City (on the Schanzengraben side). The tension is great, the result unknown. Contrary to deliberate and targeted consumption, it is chance and chance alone that defines this project. To win, however, there is the view of the expressive, digital illustration. You can celebrate, if four identical «fruits» show up on the façade.

Artist

Graphic and Interaction Designer Michael Flückiger likes to stay where design and code meet. Since completing his Master’s studies in communication design at the University of the Arts in Bern, he runs a studio in Zurich for Graphic and Creative Coding. The illustrations are by the independent qualified designer Martin Stöcklin. He studied visual communication at the Zurich University of the Arts and works for institutions in the fields of art, design, architecture and education. He impresses with his expressive, reduced-graphic illustrations and editorial work.

Location

Migros City opened in 1983 and was extensively renovated in 2014. It became a modern shopping centre. On six floors, 16 shops offer a wide range of products over about 8,750 m2. „Fruit Machine“ was deliberately designed to back onto the Schanzengraben, the historic water line along the former third city walls and popular natural oasis in Zurich. The „Fruit Machine“ has been realised in cooperation with the Migros Culture Percentage, the voluntary engagement of the Migros in the fields of culture, society, education, leisure and business.
