Project: DUST CATCHER
Artist: Magdalena Baranya
Location: modissa

Project
The protagonists of the work DUST CATCHER SERIES are objects that are collected, forgotten or given away. They are sometimes referred to as «dust catchers». Using these photographed objects, the artist creates complex collages to wallpaper walls or produce other household and decorative items. The actual collage at the modissa façade consists of displayed goods and teaser of shop windows and poster from different countries.
Artist
Magdalena Baranya is a graduate of the science of photography at the Zurich University of the Arts. The stimulus for the photo collage sprang from a project on the interiors of holiday homes. That is where she noticed these dust catchers, and she became interested in knowing where this tireless desire for decoration comes from. The carpet patterns are an illustration of a vision of paradise and a representation of a collection. The collages combine traditional conceptions of paradise and elements of contemporary consumer culture.
Location
modissa was founded in 1944 and remains a family-owned business to this day. It is the leading Zurich fashion house for the sophisticated woman who knows what she wants. The modissa building was built between 1973 and 1975 by the architect Werner Gantenbein. With its bronze façade, it exemplifies the design of commercial buildings in the 1970s. Recently it has been extensively refurbished. Inside, there is a whole new world designed by top architect Matteo Thun.
